Founder’s Story

God Planted the Seeds Long Ago

Before Tell Your God Story™ existed, God planted seeds I didn’t yet understand.

By Marla Lindstrom Benroth

After college, two passages of Scripture kept drawing me in: Jesus’ teaching about abiding in the vine in John 15 and the Parable of the Sower. I couldn’t explain why those passages captivated me so deeply. But I kept returning to them, studying them, reflecting on them, and discovering new layers of truth.

At the time, it felt like personal spiritual growth. I had no vision for a ministry built around storytelling. I wasn’t thinking about workshops, coaching, or helping others recognize God’s work in their lives. I was simply responding to a quiet hunger God had placed within me.

Now, many years later, I understand what I couldn’t see then.

God initiated a journey
that seemed like
only an interest at the time.

He was planting seeds long
before I could imagine the harvest.

While I thought I was simply studying scripture,
God was quietly cultivating a calling.

Those Scriptures were not random interests. They were seeds He intentionally sowed into my life, preparing me for a calling that would not fully emerge for decades.

John 15 taught me that lasting fruit comes from abiding in Christ. The Parable of the Sower taught me that God’s Word is a seed that grows in receptive hearts. At the time, I was simply a student of those truths. Today, I can see that they became part of the very foundation of Tell Your God Story™.

Perhaps that is how God often works.

He plants seeds long before He reveals the harvest.

He prepares the messenger long before He assigns the message.

What once seemed like disconnected interests have become beautifully connected. The vine. The seed. The harvest. The story.

This has been decades in the making.

Now, as I help others recognize, remember, and reveal what God is doing in their lives, I realize that God was writing my own story all along. The seeds He planted years ago have multiplied into something that others can embrace and share.

Perhaps that is the way God works in all of us.

If He patiently planted seeds in my life for decades before bringing them to harvest, He may be doing the very same thing in yours.

My privilege, along with our team, is to help you recognize those seeds, notice the ways God is already at work in your everyday life, and trust the Master Gardener as He brings them to maturity.

Then, as you tell your God story, He uses it to plant new seeds in the hearts of others.

Imagine the lives that can be transformed...

All because one Gardener planted one tiny seed that was faithfully cultivated until it became a harvest.

I am on a journey, just like you. To discover what God is doing around me and what seeds He is planting in my life. I look forward to seeing how things unfold.

For me.

For you.

For the many people whose lives God touches through us with His stories.

I look forward to meeting you in the journey!
